Caroline Spelman, MP for Meriden in the West Midlands, has replaced him as shadow secretary for local and devolved government.
Curry said he was "glad to see that Spelman is taking over". He added that he expected to see her attack the government on the lack of affordable housing and the impact of the growth areas on established communities.
As a shadow minister, Curry was an outspoken critic of the Communities Plan, which he said failed to address low demand and ailing local economies.
Spelman was not available for comment but according to her website, "green belt preservation and housing" are "key political issues" in her constituency.
She will be joined at the local and devolved government shadow office by David Cameron, who was previously the Tories' deputy chairman.
