Britain’s first demountable multistorey housing development (above) is to be erected this week in Southwark, south London, for Hyde Housing Association. The three-storey block of 18 key worker flats, which is prefabricated in volumetric modules in Poland, will be demounted and reassembled on a different site in five years.
The £1.4m development at Wyndham Road is the second British development using fully finished and fitted Buma modules, which are designed for a 60-year life. The temporary arrangement for the housing association exists because Hyde has only secured a five-year lease on the site.
Along with Buma, the project involves the same British team as the original scheme. As well as PCKO Architects and structural engineer Alan Conisbee Associates, the team comprises project manager Walker Management and main contractor Rok.
