Still a mainstay of the intruder alarm system, the sounder comes in many shapes ...
More flexibility
Klaxon Signals has introduced more flexibility of choice for its external range of sounders. Users can now pick a lid/lens style to match the application and then pick a sounder unit from a choice of two backplates from the Flashguard V Series (vertically mounted).

Three slick lid designs are available: XL Plus, Xpro-V and Xtravert, to be matched with the choice of two sounder units, Premier and Value. The V Series units offer a choice of lid 'n' lens colours and each lid has a large area for company logo designs if required.

The twin-piezo Premier backplate has a sound output of 118dB(A) while the Value unit has a single piezo giving a sound output of 105dB(A).

Designed to provide greater flexibility and performance, the new XL Plus is easier to fit, has a more powerful strobe and requires less standby current than the previous model – and features a larger print area for logo design.

Series V sounders are weatherproof to IP55, have high visibility xenon strobes, dual flashing comfort LEDs and durable 3mm polycarbonate bases and are suitable for a variety of applications including public buildings, shops, offices, banks and residential use.

Great value
Kinetic Products says its Aztech sounders combine ultra low profile attractive design with competitive pricing. The Aztech 3000 is a comprehensively featured external sounder suitable for residential or commercial installations. 3mm polycarbonate construction throughout provides robust protection for the sounder and the electronics.

Front and rear tamper via levered microswitch affords effective and reliable tamper protection even where mounting surfaces may be uneven. Sealed electronics combined with a conformal coated PCB prevent moisture ingress, ensuring effective performance, even in the harshest of environments.

The sounder is exceptionally loud, generating more than 115dB, while the high intensity xenon strobe flasher and twin comfort LEDs ensure the unit demands attention. A selectable cut-off timer coupled with SAB/SCB battery back-up complete the comprehensive specification.

Installation, servicing and maintenance are simplified by using the engineer hold-off mode.

When this sounder was Bench Tested in July last year our experts concluded: "The low profile design and smooth shape give an overall effect which is very pleasing on the eye, and it is made all the more attractive by a very keen trade price. Installers looking for an economical, no frills SAB in a modern design need look no further."

No need for cable
Clifford and Snell and the EMS Group have developed an innovative range of radio-based wirefree sounders.

The Yodac range has been used as the platform for the wirefree sounders, which include an alarm sounder, a combined sounder/beacon and a voice sounder, all of which operate without the need for cable installation.

With low current consumption, EMS has been able to achieve a typical five-year life from the integral energy pack which powers each unit locally, including all fire alarm tests as recommended by international standards.

With all the radio aerials incorporated into the Yodac sounder, the EMS radio sounder complements the Clifford and Snell product range, giving customers and specifiers a complete product portfolio.

For demanding installations
A fully-featured bell box, the Odyssey 3 from Texecom is suitable for the most demanding of residential and commercial installations. A low profile 3mm polycarbonate construction effectively shields the electronics and piezos.

Triple tamper protection of wall, lid and screw tampers, using high quality lever microswitches, maintains maximum security.

IP65 sealed electronics prevent the ingress of moisture, allowing the Odyssey 3 to perform in even the harshest environmental conditions. Twin piezo sounders produce an exceptionally loud alarm, suitable for the most remote locations.

Intolerable noise!
The Inferno from Klaxon is a powerful internal sounder which stops intruders in their tracks by generating an intolerable noise. It cheats the intruder of the few minutes that could be used between alarm activation and the arrival of the police, protecting the secured area for that crucial period of time.

The spectrum of sound waves produced by the Inferno make it exceptionally difficult to locate the source of the sound, ensuring the intruder cannot easily eliminate it. But no long-term hearing problems are inflicted.

The unit is easily retrofitted and a number of units can be installed. It is suitable for offices, shops, commercial and residential premises and significantly upgrades the effectiveness of existing security systems.

Internal backup by 1.1Ah battery gives up to 20 minutes of alarm in the event of power failure to the sounder.

Choice of covers

The recently-launched Multibox is CQR’s new concept for external sounders, offering a fully-featured self-contained central box, together with a choice of four different covers. Company logos can be designed and printed by CQR and, when finalised, covers will be delivered direct to the installer’s premises within 72 hours. CQR is also pointing out to installers that the much-discussed move from BS4737 to European Standard 50131does not spare reference to bell boxes! The provisional standard PD6662 (to cover the transitional phase) confirms that the audible alarm shall sound in the event of an electrical change in the connections to the panel. To CQR this highlights the feature of including monitor- ing on all connections, especially the sounder and strobe triggers. Therefore CQR now provides sounder and strobe trigger monitoring on all its bell boxes. This gives customers the extra assurance that even with the system unset, the bell box will also indicate if either the sounder or strobe wires are cut or removed.

The only change in installation procedure is the fitting of two small resistors in the control panel prior to power up, and these are supplied with all sounders. This change is achieved without affecting any of the other installer-friendly features already included in the Cequra, Ultima, Sigma or Integra external sounders.
