New design software will allow engineers and architects to quickly assess a building’s energy performance, after design software developer Autodesk incorporated Integrated Environmental Solutions’ building performance analysis software into the firm’s Revit building information modelling software.

The development will allow engineers and architects using Revit to receive a quick feedback on the building’s energy performance, CO2 emissions and the building’s daylighting.

The incorporation of IES’ building analysis software into Revit means that architects will be able to assess a building’s performance straight from the building information model without having to recreate the building geometry to analyse a scheme’s energy performance.

The speed of technical feed-back enables firms to use building analysis tools for sustainable design rather than simply for equipment sizing. It will also allow analysis tools to be used at the concept stages to guide a design.
