Small and medium-sized businesses are still not fully aware of waste regulations.
Many SMEs still do not know about the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive, according to a new survey by environmental guidance website NetRegs.
The research revealed that only one in eight SMEs are aware of the regulations.
Richard Martin, programme manager for NetRegs, stressed that SMEs generate 60% of the commercial waste in England and Wales, and it is therefore vital that companies are familiar with WEEE legislation.
He said: “The good news for SMEs is that WEEE legislation can help businesses dispose of their electrical waste products sustainably, and in many cases at no cost.”
Electronics and electricals manufacturers performed well in the NetRegs survey, with 33% able to name the WEEE regulations without prompting.
