The Security Industry Training Organisation (SITO) has joined forces with training and placement specialist Kennedy Scott to encourage women to seek careers in the security industry.

The ‘Women in Security’ project is aimed at unemployed females in six central London Boroughs. It offers them free travel, childcare and 16 hours per week training for up to nine weeks, with excellent prospects for full-time or part-time employment on completion. The ultimate aim is to place an additional 300 fully-trained females into security companies during the course of 2005.

At the start of the programme, each delegate will be interviewed by experienced Kennedy Scott advisors to ensure their understanding of the demands of security work. They will then receive guidance on preparing a CV, assistance with establishing a 10-year checkable work history, advice on preparing for interviews and the opportunity to achieve a Level 2 qualification.

SITO’s role in the initiative will be to provide trainers to teach roles and responsibilities, as well as communication and conflict management, and to invigilate at exams leading to the NOCN Level 2 qualification (and, later on, a Security Industry Authority licence).

SITO’s md Stefan Hay told SMT: “Job seekers will benefit from free guidance and training, and employers will be offered pre-trained, qualified staff. We must address the shortage of female employees.”
