If I have played a significant role in stimulating productive change across the private security industry and its client base then I am truly delighted, but I feel humble and undistinguished in comparison to many across the sector who have striven for so long to create a healthy and competitive environment.

The industry has made remarkable progress over the past few years. It deserves enormous recognition and praise. However, as you and I have discussed on many, many occasions, what has been created represents only the strong foundations enabling the industry to build.

In essence, the private security industry must be its own architect, but professional architects rarely admire the foundations. It is that which is created upon them that ultimately renders the foundations worthwhile.

As Carey Cooper once remarked: “Build what you want... or else you will be forced to like what you get.”
