The Engineering and Technology Board (ETB) has appointed Sir Gareth Roberts, FREng FRS as Chairman. Sir Gareth will succeed Sir Peter Williams, who has been its chairman since its formation in late 2001.

Sir Gareth Roberts, author of the Roberts Report - SET for Success on the provision of skills in science, engineering, technology and mathematics, is president of Wolfson College, Oxford and former vice chancellor of the University of Sheffield. He is currently visiting professor of science policy in the Said Business School.

In a distinguished industrial career, he has held posts with the Xerox Corporation and Thorn EMI where he was the director of research from 1986-1990. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and of the Royal Society.

Sir Gareth has an international reputation for his reseaarch on semiconductors and molecular electronics and is the author of over 200 pubications and patents.
