I am writing in response to your article on the positioning of consumer units in compliance with Part P and Part M (EMC, April, page 58).

I wonder if any of the regulation writers considered that positioning consumer units at such a low level provides the perfect opportunity for interference by those small individuals who love to fiddle with things and are part of most people’s lives?

What dangers a sudden loss of power might cause – granny on the stairs, mother leaving siblings in the bath to restore it!

Whilst I agree that in general Part M is to be applauded, there are elements that will create more dangers to more people than they solve. Providing a locked version of the consumer unit will, I suspect, be at variance with the requirements of Part M as well. That in itself would create problems with locating the key in the dark.
