The Best Security Innovation Award is presented to the manufacturer of a product deemed to be ground-breaking in terms of its design, and which meets a specific and well-defined client need

winner: WebWayOne

The WebWayOne Security Management System enables Alarm Receiving Centres (ARCs) to promote IP signalling and online monitoring services. With three million ADSL circuits now installed, and more and more companies reliant upon Broadband, the online solution (incorporating PD662 and ABI requirements) results in an outcome that doesn’t require a third party services provider. By integrating to the serial interface of the alarm panel, secure commands and controls can be transmitted. A plug-in GSM dual signalling module is available to notify ARCs of signal strength and any loss of the primary path.

“WebWayOne’s Security Management System is a genuine innovation. It’s cost-effectiveness will certainly encourage end users to deploy IP-based systems”

Runners-Up

Image Scan Holdings
AXIS-3D has introduced real-time, 3D screening of baggage and mail, making it easier for X-ray system operators to detect suspect objects. High quality realistic images provide a hardened defence against terrorists and criminals. Previously available two-dimensional images have given no depth, leading to an unrealistic representation of objects. AXIS-3D captures two images from a slightly different perspective, giving the monitoring security officer the impression that objects extend both in front and beyond the screen.

Dedicated Micros
DV-IP is a digital recording solution that features a powerful software development kit. By using open protocols, Dedicated Micros’ DV-IP system allows integrators to standardise on a common DVR platform, saving both time and money in the process. It’s possible to expand a system gradually rather than having to invest in costly cable runs to gain even one extra camera. Installers can take CCTV into areas where it has previously been uneconomical to do so. The cost of a camera is dramatically reduced as the size of the system grows.

Baxall
The HyperD camera is Baxall’s first product to use the innovative Digital Pixel System chip set technology from Pixim. It’s said to “radically change the way in which cameras process images”, ultimately resulting in near film quality images. The sensor in each HyperD camera digitises the pictures immediately. Every pixel is then individually exposed for the optimum amount of time, effectively meaning that each HyperD camera has hundreds of thousands of individual cameras working within it.

Panasonic (UK)
Panasonic (UK) has launched two new iris recognition (biometrics) products. The BM-ET300 is a ‘one glance’ access control system for use in many applications. It deploys two cameras to capture images from both eyes, featuring a voice guide indicator that provides a positive identification in just 1.5 seconds. In addition, the Panasonic Authenticam provides security for PCs and networks at home or in the business environment, helping organisations to reduce (or even eliminate) the cost of managing forgotten passwords.

Pyronix
The company has listened to installers’ requests by providing the KX Series of intruder detectors. Installation time is kept to a minimum, with no awkward wiring or checking of resistor colour codes. The header links supplied with the detectors are simply moved to the resistor values required, eliminating the risk of wrong resistors being fitted.

Vista TEAM
Vista TEAM (Transaction EPoS and ATM Monitoring) is designed to combat retail fraud. The till monitoring solution provides end users with a highly efficient vehicle for recording and reviewing transaction and CCTV data, either at a till or an ATM machine. The system comprises four elements: multiple CCTV cameras at EPoS and ATM sites, an interface device between the till or ATM and TEAM, the TEAM monitoring device and a Triplex Columbus DVR.
