The UK security industry is preparing for IFSEC, the highlight of the industry calendar and the world's largest annual security exhibition.

Taking place from 21-24 May at Birmingham's NEC, this year's show promises an array of innovative new attractions, according to organisers CMP Information.

IFSEC's three themed seminar theatres will be at the heart of the event. This year, some sessions will be CPD accredited, meaning visitors can update their professional skills, knowledge and competence.

The Installer seminar theatre will feature practical and educational sessions designed specifically for security installers, while the IP and Networked Security seminar theatre will cater for those areas of the industry. The third seminar theatre, for end users, will focus on the latest issues and developments facing users from diverse industry sectors including retail, finance, transport and government.

Apprentice security installers will have the opportunity to pit their skills against each other at the IFSEC Apprentice Skills Challenge 2007. Sponsored by BT redcare and supported by Skills for Security, the SSAIB and the NSI, the challenge will require participants to carry out a fault-finding exercise prior to re-commissioning an existing system in line with the new EN standards.

Anyone interested in entering the challenge should contact John Stanton on 08450 750111 or email john.stanton@skillsforsecurity.org.uk

Visitors to IFSEC will be able to explore an extensive variety of the latest security innovations, organisers say. Over 700 exhibitors will be featured, including international pavilions from Korea, Sweden, Italy and Taiwan.

"An IP and Networked Solutions area has been created due to the demand from visitors to have a separate area in the show for these new technologies in the market," they said. The Physical Security Village is a new area catering specifically for those involved perimeter protection, locking systems, safes and other physical security measures, while the CCTV Village provides installers with information on the latest products, technologies, support and advice from leading manufacturers and suppliers.

The Intruder Alarms Village features the leading manufacturers and suppliers showcasing everything from alarm systems to control panels and detectors. There will also be a Security Guarding village, for manned security, and a new area dedicated to Police and Public Security.
