Sir – I have lost count of the number of years I have been seeking to persuade the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) that security consultants should have their own section within the organisation in recognition of the fact that we are fully-fledged participants within the security profession.
That is why I’m so very delighted that the BSIA has now acknowledged the valuable contribution we make to private sector security provision by establishing the Security Consultancies Section. It is an ideal time for this to happen, as many consultancies are looking for representation from the industry’s premier Trade Association in the run-up to licensing in 2006.
The private security industry is currently experiencing many changes. Changes driven by the ongoing terrorist threat, increasing concerns over corporate governance issues, Health and Safety requirements and the impact of regulation by the SIA.
Security consultancies have an essential part to play in the way in which the industry moves forward, and the dedicated BSIA Section offers an excellent forum for consultancies to work together during these changing times in which we now find ourselves.

The BSIA’s Security Consultancies Section – chaired by Ian Johnson, with Surelock Asset Management’s Owen Griffin acting as vice-chairman – is keen to recruit new members. Interested parties should telephone the BSIA direct on 01905 21464 for further details
