2004 was generally acknowledged by the industry to have been a difficult year that contributed to the loss of some high-profile names. However, Profile 22 bucked the trend and during the last 12 months has grown at a rate greater than any point in its recent history. Sales and Marketing Director, Rob McGlennon shares the secret of their success.

There’s no doubt that the hardening economic climate saw a number of casualties in the industry last year – among them household names such as Coldseal and the demise of well-known players – BHD for example. Difficulties have been worsened by the current high price of oil forcing raw material prices ever upwards and resulting in the costs of running a business rising and putting pressure on already-squeezed margins.

As the year progressed, declining consumer confidence became more apparent as house prices started stalling, and in some areas, even going into reverse. By Christmas, economic edginess appeared to be escalating as stores resorted to ‘guerilla sales tactics’ – slashing prices in last-minute sales to tempt back shoppers.

It’s against this backdrop that Profile 22 has enjoyed a remarkable 12 months, bucking the flat market trend with a 15.3% increase in sales in the year to date compared with 2003. Given that many analysts considered the 2004 market was already down by 10% or more compared to the previous year, it could be considered quite an achievement!

Put simply, we’ve been doing a good job and so have our customers – we can’t grow without our customers growing and this is where we have concentrated our efforts to the mutual benefit of all.

So how have we done this? We have achieved sustained growth through the introduction of products such as Bubblex pre-gasketted profiles offering staggering efficiencies through the manufacturing process, in turn saving our customers both time and money.
