CITB-ConstructionSkills in Scotland has appointed Alison Kilgour as a construction ambassador to promote the industry to young people.

Kilgour, from Dunfermline, is one of the first women in Scotland to hold the position, which includes attending careers fairs. Scottish construction is aiming to attract 6,310 new recruits each year.

Kilgour qualified as a QS and works as a project manager for Miller Construction, managing contractual and commercial interests on the building of eight Fife primary schools.

"It was CITB that actually introduced me to the industry: they set up some work placements for me when I was in high school," she said. "I went back to my old school for a careers fair in one of my first roles as an ambassador and that was fantastic."

She is also set to participate in the annual Young Women in Construction conference, held in Glasgow each summer.

"Women are taking senior roles in the industry more and more: in the last 10 years the number of women coming into the industry has increased dramatically, which is great, but there is still the perception that the industry is male-dominated," she said.
