An initiative to help cut leaks from refrigerant plant has been launched by the Institute of Refrigeration (IOR) and the Carbon Trust.
The Refrigerant Emission And Leakage (REAL) Zero scheme is to get equipment owners to design, operate and maintain refrigeration equipment effectively to reduce leaks, save money and enjoy improved reliability. Most common halocarbon refrigerants have a very high global warming potential and some have ozone depleting impact.
The IOR has published a series guides and two tools to measure the carbon and financial costs associated with refrigerant leakage at www.realzero.org.uk.
