Illuminating the facade
Thorn Lighting has released Qba, a floodlight for the feature lighting of building facades, architectural details, monuments and statues. The Qba employs metal halides or high-pressure sodium lamps, ranging in size from 35 W to 150 W. The rectangular compact projectors with smooth edges and concealed stirrup are IP65 rated, use integral gear and are constructed from cast aluminium with a grey powder coated finish. Qba features four available beam patterns, produced by precision reflector systems: circular reflector in intensive or extensive symmetrical distributions, and linear cylindrical parabolic reflector in asymmetrical or double-asymmetrical distributions. Accessories include colour filters, louvre, visor, wire guard and barndoor.

Shockguard made safer
MK’s new Shockguard Plus lampholders have a specially designed shutter that totally isolates the lamp contacts once a lamp is removed. This means that with no bulb in place there is no danger of electrocution from exposed live contacts. The Shockguard Plus lampholder is white, heat resistant and available in both pendant and batten holder versions. Pendant sets incorporate a lampholder and white ceiling rose with either a 150 mm or 230 mm heat resistant flex. The ceiling roses have a transparent base and clear terminal markings for ease of identification. All products are manufactured from the highest quality materials to give a high gloss finish, which is both scratch resistant and colour fade resistant.

Work space lighting and ceiling illumination
Philips Lighting has announced the launch of two new cost-saving lamps, the Master TL-D Xtra and Master TL-D Xtreme. The two lamps are based on a new technology developed by Philips which reduces early failures. Both are tri-phosphor lamps that can directly replace any T8 lamp in existing installations resulting in a considerable reduction in the cost of lighting. The lamps achieve an improvement in lifetime performance compared to a standard single-phosphor or conventional Colour 80 fluorescent tube.
When use with electromagnetic control gear, the 90% survival rate for the Xtra is 21 000 hours and for the Xtreme it is 36 000 hours, compared to 12 500 hours for most T8 lamps. For use with electronic high frequency control gear the 90% survival rate is 37 000 hours for the Xtra and 55 000 hours for the Xtreme, compare to
16 000 hours for current T8 lamps. Master TL-D Xtra and Master TL-D Xtreme lamps are currently available in 18 W, 36 W, and 58 W ratings, in the triphosphor colours 830 (warm white) and 840 (white).

Britesign makes it clearer
Cooper Lighting and Security has introduced the Menvier Britesign exit sign, which utilises high intensity leds to provide high quality legend clarity and a light source life in excess of 40 000 hours. This long life reduces disruption cause d by frequent lamp changes. Britesign has been designed to achieve uniform illumination of the legend, coupled with a viewing distance of up to 30 m. The high intensity leds provide a significant amount of downlight to illuminate the area immediately below the exit sign in the event of an emergency. The use of leds also results in a slim luminaire profile, which, combined with the clear border surrounding the legend panel, making for an aesthetically pleasing exit sign.
Available in plated chrome or white or dark grey painted finishes, the luminaire is designed for operation in maintained, non-maintained or switched maintained modes.
