TNCC, a new name which claims to be the largest independent roof manufacturer, has actually been growing steadily since the early Nineties as the fabrication division of PBM

The roots of TNCC can be traced back to the early Nineties, as the conservatory roof fabricating sideline for building plastic distributor Plastic Building Materials Limited. The fledgling roof division was based on a mezzanine floor in the building plastics warehouse, and the initial target was just one conservatory roof a day – five a week.

These low ambitions were quickly exceeded and a substantial investment programme started with a relocation to St Gerard House, a 17,000 sq ft factory in north Swansea which at that time was half occupied by another of the PBM group companies. This situation was short lived due to the continued dynamic growth of demand, and in 1996 the roof manufacturing activity took over the whole building and renamed it PBM House.

With annual turnover now exceeding £5 million the building was extending by a further 5,000 square feet to house a polycarbonate cutting facility. This now services the company’s nationwide Roof Pack distribution business which has prospered independently alongside the conservatory roof fabrication. A second cutting centre was then established in Irvine, Ayrshire. The next investment, and probably the most significant, was a Stuga CNC cutting and preparation centre. The directors then established the activity as an autonomous limited company known as PBM Roof Systems Limited.

Separation

In 2006 the company separated from the PBM plastics distribution business and established itself as an independent operation retaining both the Swansea and the Irvine operations with nationwide distribution. To complete the transformation, PBM Roof Systems Limited has been renamed TNCC UK Limited trading as The National Conservatory Company (known as TNCC) and the factory has reverted to its old name of St Gerard’s House.

Glassex presence

TNCC is keeping certain future plans under wraps, but MD Adrian Williams can confirm that this leading independent will be the sponsor of the Gold Club Lounge area at Glassex 2007, 4-7 March.
