Thermowood and mill-finish aluminium used on Oxford Brookes University

Consultancy Ridge has helped score a BREEAM rating of “very good” for new a building at Oxford Brookes University. The materials used on the project were chosen through the Green Guide. They included mill-finish aluminium cladding with a high recycled content and “thermowood” timber cladding from fast growing sustainable sources free of chemical treatment.

Surface water at the site is attenuated by a planted swale at the front of the building. The excavated soil from the swale and the building’s footprint was reused on the site to form part of a new golf course and lacrosse pitch. The building’s teaching spaces are naturally lit and ventilated.

Ridge provided a range of services on the facilities for the electronics and mechanical engineering departments including QSing, architecture, planning supervision and mechanical engineering.

The building houses teaching workshops, laboratories, learning spaces and academic offices.
