The RICS has hit back at a letter sent by Jeremy Hackett this month to members of the institution's governing council.

President Steve Williams has written to the governing council members expressing frustration at Hackett's actions. An RICS spokesman said the letter pointed to the "vast amount of resources and money" spent by the institution in dealing with "one member's concerns over the last few years". "We are talking about hundreds or even thousands of man hours," the spokesman added.

Hackett's letter set out the reasons for his Stop the Rot campaign and called for the RICS to acknowledge mistakes made in the past. He told QS News last week that governing council members "might well be viewing me with suspicion, which they are entitled to do, but they should do so on a balanced view of the facts".

Hackett was unavailable to comment on the letter as QS News went to press. The letter spat comes days ahead of the RICS's governing council meeting, which is due to take place early next week.
