Institution sets up branch for building control professionals

The RICS has launched a new faculty for building control professionals. The discipline previously had a RICS forum, but this has been upgraded to a faculty “in recognition of the growth of stature of the discipline” the RICS said.

The new faculty will focus on the implementation of regulations on energy saving, ventilation and fire safety. It will run workshops and training roadshows and work with the Department for Communities and Local Government and the Association of Building Engineers.

The RICS Building Control Faculty, which succeeds the RICS Building Control Forum, resulted from the merger between the RICS and the Institute of Building Control in 2001.

Chairman of the faculty Paul Swift said: “As a faculty we have additional obligations regarding the provision of services to our members and new opportunities to deliver those services. I am keen that we meet those obligations and aim to have these issues high on our immediate agenda.”
