Main contractor Overbury has flouted apathy towards payment issues and scrapped holding retentions from its preferred subcontractors.

The company has monitored subcontractors over the past two years under its Perfect Delivery initiative. After reviewing results, Overbury decided it no longer needed to hold retentions from a group of trusted firms.

Managing director Paul Brazier said: “Too many people talk about it but don’t act. We want to get the best out of our subbies and we want them to want to work with us too.” Overbury handed back over £130 000 in retentions at a recent meeting of preferred subcontractors.

“We are working with all our subcontractors to bring them up to preferred level and if they reach it they too will be exempt from retention,” said Brazier.

M&E firms included in this first exemption include Capri Mechanical Services, Impact Building Services, Bradgate, Darke & Taylor, N V White and Collins & Day.
