CIOB is jointly funding research to find out how well construction employers and construction education are linked and to assess the expectations of employers, students and graduates.

Over the next few months, CIOB will send out a survey to 500 employers, asking how they recruit and what qualities they look for. At the same time universities will be hosting groups of recent graduates and current construction management students to investigate their expectations, and identify what areas of study and training they find most useful.

This is phase one of the research which is also funded by CITB-ConstructionSkills and being carried out in conjunction with the Construction Industry Council and Accelerating Change in the Built Environment.

The second phase of the research, which will commence in 2005, will involve detailed discussion and consultation with education providers. For more information on this research project, visit the CIOB website www.ciob.org.uk/iande/presidentialcommission.jsp or contact Nick Marsh on 01344 630 774.
