London Metropolitan University is managing two projects on energy use in buildings. Both projects are related to the forthcoming European Directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings (EPBD).
The first will supply information in CD form on energy use in non-domestic buildings. Users of the CD will be developers, architects and engineers across Europe. A total of 25 buildings will be included, and the types selected are local government buildings, educational buildings, and leisure facilities including sports halls and theatres.
Criteria for choice of buildings include good design (preferably award-winning buildings), low energy consumption and availability of monitored energy consumption – or easily measurable.
The second research project concentrates on occupant comfort linked to energy use. The aim is to understand and enhance the thermal comfort of building users, while minimising energy use in buildings. The researchers aim to produce guidance for indoor climates and design advice for building controls. If anyone would like their building included in the research, please contact Mike Wilson on michael.wilson@londonmet.ac.uk for more information.
