Site work has recently started on the renovation of the only surviving Georgian theatre in the UK. The Grade I listed building in Richmond, North Yorkshire dates from 1788 and will be restored to create conditions close to those of Georgian times.

The initial plan to remove the existing condensers and replace them with natural ventilation and mechanical purge extract were deemed unsuitable because of external noise from traffic. Building services consultants Buro Happold instead designed a new purge extract and distribution system, attenuated motorised dampers and an external louvre to openings in the roof and gable. Architect for the project is Allen Tod Architecture; structural engineer is Michael Heal Associates; historical theatre consultant is Theatre Projects Consultants.
