We read with interest your report about the Housing Corporation chief executive’s speech on refugee issues (“Rouse sets himself up as a champion for refugees and migrants”, 2 July, page 10).

We are representatives of refugee community housing associations working to provide affordable housing for our clients, so his speech came as a breath of fresh air.

Working in challenging circumstances, we do our best to secure properties and offer support to meet the housing needs of our community members.

However, as we are unregistered, we find it very hard to be taken seriously by the established housing sector.

Rouse’s words were extremely welcome and we look forward to working with him to turn this commitment into reality for refugees. We believe the social housing sector and refugee community organisations can work together to realise the huge potential of our new communities.
