Access control

Tyco Fire & Security has carried out a major software and hardware upgrade to its CEM AC2000 SE (Standard Edition) access control system currently serving Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU).

On this occasion, the major change was to move the system from using Watermark technology to one that employs Mifare smart card technology. With more than 100 CEM S600 readers installed, the University’s Management Team wanted to replace existing Watermark read heads and reissue the 30,000 cards with as little disruption as possible to students and staff alike.

The move to a smart card-based system is part of LJMU security manager Steve Shackleton’s strategy for a ‘one card’ solution encompassing both access control and University management.
