Over recent years, the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) has established itself as the authoritative voice of the timber window industry, providing members with a complete range of services including advice on technical, legal and employment issues and health and safety.

The success of the Timber Window Accreditation Scheme, launched in 1996, has been in raising both the standard and the profile of fully factory finished and factory double glazed windows within the industry, providing rigorous third party testing of windows and their manufacturing process.

In order to further encourage the use of timber as a fenestration material, the BWF has pledged that by the end of 2004, all timber used the BWF Accredited Timber Manufacturers will be obtained from independently certificated timber resources such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or the Pan European Forest Certification Council (PEFC).
