QSs charge higher fees when working on projects carried out under the JCT will bills contract than for work on JCT jobs without bills, a new report has found. The gap between JCT with and without bills is around 0.7% on schemes worth £1m. This decreases slightly to around 0.6% at £5m, said the latest report from the Fees Bureau. In the case of jobs carried out under Design & Build contracts, higher fees were commanded for Design & Build Client contracts than for Design & Build Contractor jobs. The differential on £5m jobs is around 0.6%. The differential is only measurable for projects worth over £1m due to the size of the jobs respondents to the survey reported. In our latest edition we reported that QS fees have gone up 5% since the start of the year. Since 2000 they have increased by 11%, discounting inflation.The Fees Bureau is the publishing arm of research firm Mirza & Nacey.
