The Association of Women in Property is launching a drive to sign-up more QSs and project managers.

The move is being spearheaded by WiP's newly appointed chairman Rosemary Tinker, a project manager at AYH and chartered QS.

Tinker said during her one-year term she planned to attract more women from the construction side of the industry to the association, which currently has more members from the property business.

WiP has grown exponentially by over 30% in the past three years and membership now stands at over 1,250. Tinker said she hoped to increase the pace of expansion further.

To achieve this Tinker will up the number of events the association holds around the country. Until now WiP has hosted around 100 events in the 10 regions.

Among the new events Tinker has planned is a conference in Edinburgh called The Thinking Team: Projects and How to Survive them, to be held between 7 and 9 September.

The new chairman will also run a campaign to encourage school children to go into property and construction. WiP is working on the initiative with JIVE (Joint Interventions) Partners, an EU-funded group of European organisations committed to attracting women into traditionally male-dominated industries.

Tinker has experience on both the contractor and consultant sides. She has worked for AYH in project management and facilities management for 15 years. Prior to that she worked as a QS for M&E contractor Haden Young.

She will keep up her day job at AYH during her term as chairman of WiP - she specialises in project management for major commercial clients, including Prudential and JP Morgan Chase.
