QS Young Achiever of the Year
Adam Tarling, Castles ShopfittersHaving initially trained at Faithful & Gould, Adam has now taken on the challenge of heading up commercial services at a Bradford-based shopfitting firm. He has swiftly developed into a management role at the firm, overseeing and devising procurement strategies and value engineering exercises.
Chimwemwe Lungu, Turner & Townsend
Chimwemwe enjoyed considerable success while studying and has transferred that achievement to her employer. She has handled an impressive array of projects and proved an inspiration to younger colleagues in her championing of APC and the profession in general.
Daniel Hughes, Turner & Townsend
Reaching the post of associate director within seven years of joining a firm is quite an achievement, especially given that the commercial team he heads up is currently delivering in excess of £500m of work. Daniel is presently working on a £150m major regeneration project in the centre of Bradford.
Jonathan Carkeet, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory
Jonathan has moved to the client side after beginning his career at Davis Langdon, and is now jointly leading the second phase of a £100m public programme of works.
He is also a dedicated member of the RICS project management faculty and is contributing to a book on the benefits of the surveying profession.
Sandra Cummings, Faithful & Gould
Sandra prides herself on her problem-solving talents, which she displayed in spades on a new capital programme planned by Telford College in Edinburgh.
Her techniques have included an impromptu ideas session with the project team members, which garnered an agreed works package for the project in just 15 minutes.
Nicky Farmer, Gardiner & Theobald
Nicky is a great example of the new wave of non-cognate graduates who are sweeping into the sector. Having graduated in chemistry and management in 2001, she achieved chartered status last year while at Gardiner & Theobald and is working on a wide variety of work, including a complicated office refurbishment and extension in Cheapside, central London.

Haleys is proud of its reputation as one of the highest-quality specialist consultancies in the market. The 90-strong team has worked on everything, from a £60m data centre to specialist healthcare work and retail projects. Its recent work includes a unit at King’s College Hospital.

Set up in 1987, Maitland has certainly carved a niche in M&E work, boasting an impressively wide-ranging client list. The firm’s work, for both M&E contractors as well as clients themselves, includes the recently completed Light retail scheme in Leeds (pictured).
Turner & Townsend
The firm’s 30-strong team is focused on offering whole-life costing advice as well as straight capital cost consultancy.
The firm’s innovations include being part of the formation of an M&E buying club for client BAA. This resulted in a 10-30% cost-saving when compared to market price.
