QS fees fall in leisure sector

Fees for quantity surveyors carrying out new build leisure projects have fallen in 2006, research company Fees Bureau has said. The latest report from the firm also said fees had decreased this year for QSs working on retail refurbishment jobs.

In the other sectors marginal increases were detected. In private housing new build average fees have gone up slightly on projects valued at £2m and over. Fees for larger jobs are also marginally higher for offices and industrial work.

Work in the health sector on all sizes of jobs has commanded increased fees, although again, the rise was minimal.

Rises were reported in JCT refurbishment work between 2005 and 2006 in private housing, public housing and industrial sectors.

Last year the Fees Bureau found that industrial was the only sector to record lower average fees for all four types of build and contract. This year the sectors is looking brighter for QSs, with fees increased in three of the four permutations of contract and build types.

In private housing, the largest single sector, average fees have risen for both new build and refurbishment JCT jobs.
