Pumps for food applications

Grundfos has added the durieta O multistage centrifugal pump to its sanitary range. This stainless steel, close-couple, end-suction device complies with food technology requirements, such as applications where hygiene is of key importance. It features inter-stage, discharge and suction castings and impellers made of rolled stainless steel.

Underfloor heating control

ESBE’s 90C actuator for underfloor or radiator heating circuits varies boiler flow temperatures relative to the outside temperature. It allows the setting of operating periods as daily or weekly programmes. Setting its heating curve is simple. Standard features include night set-back and comfort-boost facilities.

Going down

Obart’s Tsurumi Poma submersible pump can operate with narrow sumps, in which pendant float switches could be fouled. It will pump water at up to 5.5 m of head at a flow rate of 250 litres per minute. It comes with or without a float switch in 110 V and 230 V versions and is made of reinforced plastic and stainless steel.

Banishing backflow

Watts Industries says its FC Check Valve is the first backflow protection device to meet the stringent requirements of new European EN 13959 standard for anti-pollution check valves of diameters up to 250 mm. The unit provides strong protection against backflow as it will seal and hold a pressure of 500 Pa. Single and double check valves provide protection for Category 2 and 3 backflow risks respectively. This allows the unit to target applications such as fire sprinkler systems, in which stagnant water risks being drawn back into the mains, and boundary protection, where an area must be isolated from mains water, such as in industrial laundries or hospitals.

Drive’s frequency changes with demand

KSB says its PumpDrive variable speed drive system adjusts its frequency according to changes in operational conditions such as pressure, differential pressure and differential temperature, and can provide energy savings of up to 50%. Operation under flow conditions reduces stop-start situations to cut mechanical stress and the risk of surge pressure. This reduces wear and tear and, in turn, bills for maintenance and repair. KSB says the system can be installed cost-effectively by users.

PumpDrive has other key features, such as a low rotational speed, which keeps noise levels down, and user friendly operation. It is suitable for applications that require up to six pumps, such as ventilation and air conditioning.

Pump for clean water can operate submersed or dry

Grundfos’s stainless steel SPO pump for domestic water supplies can be submersed or dry installed. It suits applications that pump clean cold water, such as open and semi-open wells or rainwater collection systems. The pump is suitable for use in applications that require a flow rate of 3-6.5 m3/hr and a pressure head of up to 75 m.

Grundfos also has an all-in-one system that helps overcome low water pressures. Home Booster comprises a water storage tank, a non-return valve, an 8 litre expansion vessel and a pump. The storage tank capacity is 180 litres with the option for an extra water storage tank. Home Booster contains a Grundfos CHI 2-60 pump, and the pump and the tank are WRAS approved. The booster has a pressure setting of 0.5-0.7 bar (50-70 kPa) that can be set in increments of 0.1 bar (10 kPa).
