Eddie Kerr and Ian Gould of accountants and business advisers PKF (UK) LLP have been appointed as joint administrators of two window manufacturing companies.
Phoenix Thermoframe Ltd and PTF (Northern) Ltd are part of the PTF Group of companies. Phoenix Thermoframe is based at Riverside in Market Harborough, Leicestershire and PTF (Northern) Ltd at Leechmere Industrial Estate, Sunderland. No other company within the group is affected.
Phoenix Thermoframe Ltd is a major manufacturer of PVC-U windows for the commercial, local authority and new build residential markets and has traded successfully for the last 12 years. PTF (Northern) Ltd was formed in 2001 to handle increased volumes and expand the group’s portfolio of products.
PKF partner Eddie Kerr said: ‘Both companies are continuing to trade while we work with the companies’ management to identify purchasers for the businesses.’
‘The companies appear to have been well managed but following the completion of a number of significant contracts the Companies were about to suffer a downturn in turnover to a level which meant that they were unable to cover their overheads. Despite the best efforts of all concerned, it had not been possible to win sufficient new work to run the business at current levels.’
‘By acting early the management have maintained good working relationships with the companies’ suppliers and customers who are working with us t0 facilitate a possible sale of the businesses as a going concern.’
Phoenix Thermoframe Limited had 79 employees of which 59 have been made redundant and 20 have been retained.
PTF (Northern) Limited had 33 employees of which 14 have been made redundant and 19 have been retained.
Jim McClure, Managing Director, said: ‘We are working closely with the administrators, our customers and various interested parties with a view to selling the businesses as going concerns. Despite the reduction in turnover there is still a significant order bank in place, albeit at a reduced level of activity, to enable the business to go forward under new ownership and retain an element of the skilled workforce.’
