Developer Akeler has been appointed by oil giant BP to build a new 22,000m2 HQ building in Aberdeen.

A project team has yet to be appointed on the scheme, designed by practice Andrew Lett Architects, which was founded by the former Aukett chairman Andrew Lett.

Akeler and BP have promised to use energy efficient materials and technologies during construction of the new office, which is due to end in 2007. They claim a displacement air conditioning system will save £130,000 in annual energy costs when compared to industry standard air conditioning.

The complex will feature seven wings on three levels and a naturally ventilated atrium street in the middle.
