The Advocate Bar, Belfast

WHAT: A bar/restaurant in the legal area of Belfast city centre serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Advocate hosts jazz evenings and R'n'B nights.

HOW: Belfast pub chain Life Inns commissioned a fit-out of an existing property to create an intimate venue with a legal theme to fit its location next door to the High Court and Bar Library.

HOW MUCH: £500,000

HOW BIG: 297m2

CONTRACT: JCT intermediate

WHEN: Design completed mid October 2005, started on site 31 October, opening night 8 December.

WHO: Durnien.com was the QS, project manager and planning supervisor, the architect was O'Donnell O'Neill Design.

QS SAID: "The intention was to try and incorporate a legal feel to the design but to also make it inviting to those outside the legal profession.

The design incorporates warm timber panels, crystal light fittings, leather and upholstered furniture, rich silk window dressing, light box walls with photos of legal and university libraries and a private dining area with a ten seat antique dining table" - Victoria Murray, associate director, Durnien.com
