ACCESS CONTROL

Raising the bar

Longitude IP Access Control from DVTel is an open software-based access control solution which, the company says, "clearly raises the bar". It gives users a single, user-friendly interface for both access control and video. Features include alarm monitoring, graphical maps, automation, reporting, photo badge creation and time and attendance.

It is "hardware agnostic" so it can take over almost any legacy access control system. It uses multi-vendor readers and panels including the new HID VertX line of IP products and it means the end user "is no longer locked into proprietory access control hardware and that's a significant advantage for our customers" says the company.

No specialist training

TAC Satchwell is introducing its "latest generation" Intelli-M Power over Ethernet to the UK market. Designed to be installed and operated without specialist training, its embedded web server allows users to communicate with a stand alone door controller from a PC workstation anywhere in the world.

As the system grows, its Supervisor Plus management software provides all the standard and advanced management tools of a security control system. It has features such as time and attendance, guard tours, CCTV/DVR integration and photo-ID production.

Easily integrated biometrics

Deister electronic UK, manufacturer of RFID solutions, has launched bioProx, a range of biometric ID devices that provides access control through fingerprint recognition.

Combining biometrics with a proximity reader, it supports Wiegand or magstripe and features a TCP/IP interface for management control and future expansion. It is said to be easily integrated into any existing access control system. A sensor captures the fingerprint, an algorithm processes it and makes comparisons and the unit reads the template from contactless card technology.

Importantly, says the company, it uses high definition optical sensors, "rather than the silicon sensors used by other manufacturers". This protects it from damage by static electricity.

Hands-free videophone

The Eclipse hands-free videophone from Videx Security is said to bring new levels of versatility to the company's range of video door entry systems. Available in surface or flush mounted, units have a colour monitor and hands-free full duplex speech plus the option to switch into simplex speech when required.

It provides users with speech line and tone volume as well as colour and brightness controls. Door open, camera recall, privacy and on/off latching relays are also featured. Using coax or twisted pair, it is said to be an "ideal" complement to the Videx 4000 Series of door entry panels.

Supa access control

BPT Security Systems has launched three stand-alone, entry level Impro SupaGate proximity access control units for small commercial or upmarket residential applications. Installation, set up and maintenance is said to be "extremely easy" and manually configured hardware and tags can be added or deleted from the system by using the push buttons and display within the receiver.

SupaGate Lite is designed for single door proximity access control and is "simple" to install. SupaGate is mid range with four relays with a single reader connection allowing one unit to secure four access points. Supagate Plus has four relays with two reader connections allowing it to control both vehicle entrances via radio frequency and building access via conventional access readers, all from the single controller.

'Massive' savings

The new TelePorter2N series telephone based door entry system requires only one standard telephone line, PABX extension or GSM interface. No additional cabling to apartments or houses is needed, "massively reducing the costs of installation" says the company.

The TeleDor2N and TeleDorK2N can hold up to 54 numbers and are programmable from any landline or mobile telephone. There is an option to accommodate these with single buttons (up to 54) or via a keypad. Other features are a video facility with day/night colour camera, up to six auto re-dial numbers when a call is unanswered or busy and a day/night concierge or warden facility.

ALARMS

Detector speaks volumes

Optex Europe has launched an "innovative, low cost and highly reliable" area detection device that not only detects unwanted intruders loitering in driveways or back gardens but can also warn intruders off the site with a series of sequential announcements.

The VX 402 Series uses multiple detection pattern technology developed from the company's long range external detector range that prevents false activation from pets, birds and small animals. Two discrete detection areas are created and the alarm output is only provided when an intruder is detected in both areas.

Originally designed for small commercial and industrial applications, the unit has now been adapted for residential applications. Hard wired or wire-free, it is "ideal" for event driven CCTV and allows the installer to record a customised warning message on-site. The volume can be increased by wiring a second speaker into the detector.

Empty property protected

Sentico has launched an alarm system specifically designed for void properties which are left empty and where there is neither mains power nor telecoms.

By combining the Void Property Alarm System with the GE KeySafe from Supra (UK) – also in the company's portfolio – the expense of paying for an individual to wait on site for utilities or be on standby, is eliminated. It also makes it easier to gain access should the alarm be activated. The company says the biggest benefit is the battery technology. The portable system has a battery life of up to three years.

Installation is within 15 minutes, says the company and the unit can be moved from one property to another with no need for maintenance other than registering the new location via software. It can be configured to use several wireless PIRs at a distance of up to 45 feet and has the option of an uncomfortably loud sounder that can be activated within the property to alert the intruder.

New in Gardtec range

Risco Group has launched the Gardtec 490x which allows installers to offer the same system as the popular Gardtec range of control panels but with wireless expansion. The 490x is a completely hybrid system and follows the PD6662 and EN 50131-1 Grade 2 standards. Both the 490x and the 480 are suitable for residential and commercial applications.

The company says that having studied the EN 50131 standards, it has applied them to its products. The 490x has a larger metal end station to accommodate a 9 Amp battery with space for wiring. It is expandable up to 9-16 zones via zone doubling with 15 user codes and 300 event logs. It has an onboard modem and communicator and upload/download remote programming capabilities.

Picture this

With some insurance companies now specifying "picture protection" if valuable objects are displayed within offices and homes, installers are now being requested to fit object protection devices.

Euronova has introduced GalleryMonitor which uses wire-free sensors and features anti-tamper, anti-mask, unique ID and battery and signal monitoring. The art protection sensor is a non-touch detector that does not make contact with the artwork but is fixed to the wall behind.

The receiver is on all the time and links the existing (or new) alarm panel using the built-in relays and the alarm's own power supply. If the artwork is moved there is no need for any rewiring.

Towards 2000

Sanyo has launched a new DVR which uses JPEG 2000 compression, which it says is "ideal for video over IP-based CCTV systems".

The DSR-5016PA has 16 camera inputs and a terabyte of onboard storage. Recorded images can easily be transferred for evidential purposes onto a DVD or CD via the DVR's integral DVD/CD writer, or alternatively onto compact flash or a microdrive.

The DSR-5016PA allows operators to set up to three 'Regions of Interest' for each camera. These ROIs enhance picture quality for a particular area and lower it for the unimportant areas, further reducing file sizes and increasing recording capacity.
