Simple cable conduit system

The new Korifit pre-wired flexible conduit systems from Adaptaflex come complete with cables.

"This leaves only the external run to fit and secure, along with the final connection to equipment," Adaptaflex says. "Its use offers the ultimate in speed of installation, with just one easy operation to install conduit complete with cables.

"The time consuming operation of inserting the necessary cabling required in order to complete an installation is totally eliminated, making the system a real choice for contracts where tight deadlines have to be met to avoid costly penalties."

For ease of use during the installation, the conduit is removed from the centre of the coil. Overall length of the cable run should be allowed for when initially cutting pre-wired conduit from the reel. Adaptaflex advises using a Kwikcut cutting tool on the conduit and wire cutters on the cable. The conduit can then be trimmed back, exposing useable lengths of cables.

A wider view

PI Vision has integrated the functionality of the IPIX CommandView dome into the Universal Video Management System, its third generation network video recording solution.

CommandView is a solid-state IP dome camera which utilises a fisheye lens to stream a 360 degree view of the area around a camera. Both internal and external models are available. Using image transformation software, normal views are extracted from the fisheye image, giving the user a virtual dome view around which they can pan, tilt and zoom.

UVMS stores the complete 1.5 megapixel fisheye view, recording the entire scene so it can be reviewed at a later date - it streams the 360 degree view continuously. With the 360 degree view stored securely on hard disk, an operator can go back at a later date and review the entire scene around the dome, to gather additional information that would have been missed by a conventional dome camera.

Catching flytippers

Box telematics has introduced a new wireless CCTV system aimed at reducing flytipping – secureBOX.

It is capable of running on a battery without mains power, and can also be either purchased or rented depending on requirements. The secureBOX team manages the deployment and monitoring of the equipment, allowing customers to monitor multiple sites at different times.

The company says it can be made to blend in with surroundings, making it difficult to detect to fly tippers. It can be connected to an alarm receiving centre, laptop or mobile phone. Alarm events are captured on CCTV and recorded in digital quality locally, and customers, security firms and police can also remotely view the alarm event in real time across a mobile phone network connection. It is possible to set a threshold barrier around the selected space, known as a 'geo-fence' and when that is broken, an immediate alarm will be sent in a matter of a few seconds across the mobile phone networks.

Showing Digital Vision

The Johnson Controls Digital Vision Network "combines the benefits of digital video recording with sophisticated software that improves the way images can be monitored, analysed and archived," the company says.

DVN can be programmed to "learn" a typical camera scene, enabling it to recognise and record specific events or anomalies, detect patters of behaviour or movement, and respond by alerting officials. Johnson Controls says another advantage of the systems is its cutting edge image analysis software, which can be activated to search recorded video footage for user-defined objects. For example, if a red hatchback was involved in a car park incident, the system can be programmed to quickly search archived video for clips containing a red car.

"DVN delivers high quality video and optimum voice quality over low bandwidth for minimal demands on the network," the company says. "In addition, DVN software suites allow remote management of complex digital video architectures. Together this means that for the first time, a wireless network-connected PDA is a realistic video surveillance solution."

Life is SymSuite

GE has released the SymSuite IP solution, which allows users with legacy analogue systems to create an IP-based video network while continuing to use their existing equipment.

Users can connect SymVeo IP platform cameras, SymDec digital video recorders, PCs and servers directly to the network. SymNet encoders/decoders provide network access for currently used analogue cameras and monitors.

The platform can be used anywhere an organisation needs to capture surveillance video and is especially beneficial with multiple facilities such as banks and ATM kiosks, school campuses, office and industrial parks and retail chains.

GE's SymNav software lets users view their entire network through their PCs.

They can see real-time, full-motion video of broadcast quality images at 30fps for each channels, can call up four cameras at a time or view video in a single window.

Users can also find video storage quickly by searching for time/date, camera, alarm, event,or transaction text. The software also lets users control PTZ cameras.

Filter for Europe

Focus EDL has introduced a new filter designed specifically to allow monitored alarm systems to connect to a DSL activated line. Manufactured to a Focus specification by Excelsus, the Z-A431EU is suitable for use throughout Europe, and allows installations to meet the forthcoming EN 50131 standard.

The filter is designed to offer an effective method of blocking interference between DSL and the monitored alarm panel.

It isolates high frequency DSL and Home Phone network signals from low frequency voice and data communications. To meet EN 50131, the alarm panel must be capable of line seizure, and to achieve this, the alarm must be installed first in line in the system.

The Z-A431EU allows alarm panels to meet the standard by inserting the filter between the telephone master socket and the panel, allowing seizure to continue, but also filtering the DSL signal from the alarm panel.

“Most service providers include in the installation kit at least two microfilters, and customers normally use these for their computer or telephone line,” says Focus EDL managing director Geoff Philpot. “The problem is that the line going into the alarm panel is not filtered, and will at best suffer interference and at worst will not work at all.”

It can be installed in an alarm system at any time and can be added to an existing system when the customer chooses to have DSL activated. It can also be installed in a new system that is, or will be, connected to an active DSL line.

Hot for detection on farms

The new Heat and Fire Detection System – Firesense – from FM Electronics is designed to monitor the linear heat detection cable and its associated end of line terminator for high temperature alarm and open and short circuit fault conditions.

One of the unit's uses is protecting hay bales on farms. A connection to the farmhouse warns when the hay becomes overheated, preventing a potential fire. The alarm is also used for protecting thatched buildings.

It has an integrated transmitter that communicates alarm conditions to any of the FM Electronics range of receivers, depending on which transmitter is fitted.

The Heat Detection Cable employs specially formulated polymers to provide a change in resistance with temperature that is monitored by the controller.

The insulation resistance of the coaxial cable falls when it is subjected to an increase in temperature and provides repeatable values at all levels up to the destruction temperature of the cable.

This resistance change is monitored by the controller, which also provides a means of setting the alarm temperature for a given length of cable.

The cable is therefore ideal for detecting the early stages of fire and overheat conditions, and can be physically tested any number of times by the application of heat.
