Brother beyond

Read on for your chance to win one of Brother’s PT-2480 labellers.

Brother’s PT-2480 labelling machine for electrical contractors is claimed to make the marking of cables, wires and switchboards a simpler, faster task. One EMC reader can put this to the test free of charge in our latest reader giveaway.

With a ‘rotate print’ function, the machine will print text vertically on labels, making it easy to read after wrapping around the cable or wire; a flexible tape enhances this feature.

The custom template capability is designed specifically for patch panel labelling. A flash rom and usb interface allows the user to download images, logos and professional symbols from a pc into the machine’s memory for use on the labels before going out on site.

Ten pre-format keys enable the saving of regularly used labelling formats for quick and easy recall. The keyboard is rugged and hard wearing, plus ergonomically designed.

A print preview facility allows the user to view and customise labels before printing. Variable elements include font styles and sizes, widths, frames, alignment, margins and length.

The PT-2480 uses Brother’s patented TZ tapes in 6, 9, 12, 18 and 24 mm widths. These are constructed from six layers of material to give high resistance wear. Characters formed with thermal transfer ink are printed onto the underside of a laminate and sandwiched between two layers of polyester film.

The TZ tapes are able to withstand heavy abrasion, electrical resistance, plus lengthy exposure to chemicals, sunlight, water and temperatures from -50°C to 300°C.

Tests of the tapes’ dielectric strength show that black characters began to lose their electrical resistance at an applied voltage of 8 kV.

For your chance to win a Brother PT-2480 labeller simply fill in the reader enquiry card in this issue and circle the number below. The first reader to request information on the product will win the PT-2480 labeller.

Data storage

The internal test result storage and downloading facilities of Megger’s latest instruments mean it is not necessary to carry a laptop to site to collect and store test results.

The LT330 loop tester, MIT330 insulation and continuity tester and RCDT330 rcd tester all have enough storage for at least 1000 test results. USB connections enable downloading of results to a pc.

Data can be stored under 255 job numbers. It is stored in flash memory so is retained even if the instruments battery fails.
