A group of appliance manufacturers have set up a new company to recycle electrical and electronic consumer products in line with new European law.
The Recycling Electrical Producers Industry Consortium, to be known as REPIC, is due to begin setting up in spring 2004.

The 12 companies involved have each committed £30 000 of funding to the project and have issued an open invitation to the rest of the industry to join them.

Names such as Glen Dimplex and Philips are founder members, along with consumer product manufacturers including Alba, Smeg and Whirlpool.

AMDEA and Intellect are assisting member companies to establish the consortium, to fulfil requirements of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive, in force from August 2005.
