The construction of Building 1000, on a 50-acre site opposite London City Airport in the east of the City, is due for completion in Spring 2004. It will provide 20 438 m2 of office space in two five-storey blocks. Each block has a basement plantroom, and will be fully air conditioned via individual, four-pipe, fan coil systems.
Service risers are sized from 15-203 mm, dropping down from roof level and connecting to prefabricated service modules. The modules were prefabricated at MEP Solutions' plant in Ashington, Northumberland. Mapress carbon and stainless steel piping and press fittings marketed by Pressfitting UK of Surrey were assembled into the modules. The fittings were slipped into the first module pipework during prefabrication and crimped on site; they are lighter than their barrel pipe equivalents and they could be used by operatives after a half-day training session. Their use cut services installation time and labour.
