Looking back over my term as ECA president, I am pleased to have been part of such a significant and challenging year for the Association: it is clear that the ECA is ever more influential in driving positive change in the industry.
One prime example is the success of the ECA's Zero Accident Potential (ZAP) initiative. Recent statistics show that, through ZAP, ECA members have reduced major accidents by 60% and our overall accident rate is far less than the rest of the industry: a great achievement.
The ECA has also been leading the way on environmental issues. As long-awaited changes to Part L come into effect, the Association's competent persons scheme - the Electrical Energy Efficiency Scheme - has been approved by government.
Employee relations have also been high on the agenda, culminating for me with the recent JIB conference. Change was the major theme, with the increasing diversity of member companies, predicted skills shortages and the impact of indirect employment being hot topics of conversation. I was pleased to see so many joining in the debates.
Finally, I would like to add that I have thoroughly enjoyed working with ECA staff and fellow ECA officers and wish Alan North all the best as I commend him to the Association as its next President.
