Academic Anne Power has begun a series of visits to Birmingham to assess the council’s moves to devolve control of its housing service.
The visits come more than a year after Power, professor of social policy at the London School of Economics, recommended the devolution in an inquiry into the city’s infamous failed stock transfer (HT 12 December 2002, page 9). Joining Power on the visits will be Joseph Rowntree Foundation director Lord Best, Housing Corporation board member Yvonne Hutchison, chief executive of Gateway to London Aman Dalvi and Danish social housing expert Jesper Nygaard.
