Two door staff operatives from Portsmouth have become the first in the country to be awarded the new national Security Industry Authority (SIA) door supervisor licence ('Licensing for door staff goes 'live', News Update, SMT, April 2004, p7).
Emma Lovejoy – who's employed by Bowlplex – and Big Security's Oliver Gardner have both completed the necessary training course and passed rigorous checks to gain the national SIA 'badge of approval'.

32-year-old Lovejoy (pictured above with Oliver Gardner) has been in the security industry for four years, combining life as a door supervisor with studying at university. "The new licence means the industry is starting to become more regulated," she told SMT. "That can only be a good thing. People across the country will soon be able to enjoy nights out in their local pubs and clubs knowing they're in safe hands."

The scheme launched across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight on 1 March.
