Work has just finished on the new Fosters and Partners-designed Palace of Peace in Kazakhstan for client Sembol Construction.
The 62m-high pyramid shaped structure contains a national spiritual centre, a 1,500-seat opera house and a university faculty. The building’s apex is clad in stained glass depicting doves. Museum and exhibition space covers three floors.
Buro Happold was the structural engineer and Istanbul’s GN Engineering the mechanical engineer. The centre is situated in the country’s capital, Astana, and took two years to build.
