Arup is leading the engineering design on Parc 1, a £750 million sustainable development on Yeouido Island, Seoul, for Skylan Properties.

The 4.6 ha site will include 120,000 m2 of retail, two office towers and a 400-room hotel. The scheme will feature cogeneration to reduce the use of non-renewable sources, ground-coupled heat pumps, photovoltaic cells and thermolabyrinth energy stores. It will also include solar water heating and the re-use of waste water for irrigation and toilet flushing. Architects for the scheme are Richard Rogers Partnersip, RTKL and Korean partners Samoo Architects & Engineers. The scheme is expected to start on site in summer 2007.
