letters of the month
Who's the bodger? (News and Views, CM, July/August). Having recently rejoined the Institute I was eager to examine my first new copy of the magazine. And then I saw the article by our chief executive.

So the answer to industry ills, the DTI's prayers and the housewives' moan is prosecution of unqualified tradesman, is it? Oh good, another restriction on trade, another bureaucratic hurdle and more for the Town Hall to feel self important about.

Never mind. We all know that the 'college' course administered by dedicated, well-remunerated further education lecturers with real industry experience will have all the tick boxes necessary. Then every worker will have the appropriate piece of paper that says he's a tradesman. He's qualified. Let's all pat ourselves on the back. What a load of poppycock!

Why persuade our masters to oppress us more? They do it enough without our encouragement.
