IndigoVision's IP video technology is at the heart of a new integrated security system designed for Glasgow's museums and leisure centres.

Housed in 17 different buildings throughout the city, ‘Glasgow Museums' is the UK's largest local authority museums service. Of late, the Security Department has been looking to centralise and integrate the existing security and CCTV systems unique to each site. An IP network was the only viable solution, and thus IndigoVision teamed up with systems integrator Visual Management Systems to offer a bespoke solution.

Each site uses a traditional Ultrak-based analogue video system, which can operate independently. IndigoVision's 8000 Series transmitter/receiver units are then used to convert video trunk feeds from each of the local Ultrak matrices into high quality MPEG-4 digital video. In turn, this is transmitted to the Control Centre via 100 mb/s WAN links provided by THUS plc, Glasgow City Centre's network partner.

Video is recorded locally at each site, although all recordings may be accessed by the security officers in the Control Centre courtesy of the IP network.
