Security Industry Authority (SIA) Investigators have continued the Regulator’s enforcement action with Operation Cornflower, targeting Public Space Surveillance CCTV Suites at retail centres.

The Investigators have visited 21 CCTV Suites around the country, checking that operatives were licensed and that installations are compliant with the Private Security Industry Act 2001. The Suites were found to be run by operatives from 14 private security companies, five of whom are on the list of Top Companies (ie those employing 600 or more licensable members of staff). Of the companies visited, only three were found to be in total compliance with the law. Further action could now be taken under Sections 3 and 5 of the Act.

Poppy Saunders – the SIA’s head of investigation – told SMT: “Cornflower has uncovered high levels of non-compliance among some high profile contractors. Investigators also discovered incidences of misuse of Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) Licence Dispensation Notices, which may well constitute non-compliance with the legislation and non-conformance with ACS Terms and Conditions.”

Investigations are “ongoing”.
