Opening a new chapter I read with interest the editorial in the last issue (‘From cat to mouse?’, QS News, 3 November), which implied that the recent JV between Cushman & Wakefield (C&W) and EC Harris had been seen by some as a “prelude to EC Harris itself being swallowed up”.

I would like the opportunity to reassure the market that the JV you refer to, Corporate Occupier Solutions Ltd (COS), is not the first step towards any merger but an effective way in which to allow both parties to focus on providing common services to clients without integrating their businesses.

As part of the JV, EC Harris purchased a 50% stake in Cushman & Wakefield Management Services’ subsidiary, and added these skills to ours to provide a unique proposition to corporate occupiers who are seeking a total CRE service solution.

It is also worth noting that the JV only applies to the CRE sector and does not affect other sectors of EC Harris or constitute any form of merger. Indeed, both C&W and EC Harris will continue to maintain total independence in their operations.

Rather than closing the book on EC Harris after more than 90 years, the JV should be seen as opening a new chapter in our continuing success as the leading international professional services consultancy.

There are exciting times ahead for not only COS, but EC Harris and C&W, and, of course, I look forward to reading about them first in QS News.
