Schools in the Brighton and Hove district have installed a "revolutionary" acoustically activated fire door hold-open device.
Dorgard is said by its supliers to be the easiest and most cost effective way of legally holding open fire doors safely. Supplier, Brighton-based Fireco Ltd, says the unit complies with all relevant standards, directives and fire regulations, and can be fitted in five minutes. No wiring is required and, as the device is battery operated and, as it fixed to the fire door itself, it can hold it open at any angle.
The company says that malicious fires in schools have risen by over 50 per cent in seven years and the device helps schools minimise the risks from daytime arson attacks.
